Welcome to the Help Center: GOLDPoint’s New Documentation Website

Written by Charles Burnett | July 22, 2021

The GOLDPoint Systems (GPS) documentation team is excited to announce the launch of the Help Center, a new website designed to replace and improve upon DocsOnWeb as a resource for help documentation.

The Help Center is an improvement over its predecessor in several important ways:

Better Search

The experience of searching for specific information has been streamlined and improved in the Help Center. A single search bar, visible from any page, is used to search the entire site for indicated search terms. The best search enhancement, however, is the new filter option. Use the filter button to the right of the search bar (shown below) to ONLY search specified segments of the Help Center.

Searching for a particular mnemonic? Type it in and use the Mnemonic Dictionary filter. Looking for information about a certain Work Order? Enter the number and use the Updates filter. Want to look up loan field information for transactions without having your results cluttered by unwanted matches? The Transactions filter is your friend.

The current filters available in the Help Center are listed below, but we are open to further suggestions. If your institution thinks there is a broad topic worthy of becoming a separate filter, reach out to your GPS account manager to make the request.

  • Credit Reporting
  • Customer Management
  • Dealer Management
  • Deposits
  • EZPay
  • General Ledger
  • Institution Options
  • Loans
  • Mnemonic Dictionary
  • Remote
  • Reports
  • Security
  • Transactions
  • Updates

Better Navigation

The Help Center’s table of contents is always visible on the left side of the screen, showing your exact location at all times (see below). This window displays the site’s ENTIRE table of contents, not just the section you’re currently viewing, so you can always see where you are in the context of the website as a whole. This window, in combination with the top nav drop-down menus, allows for more seamless transitioning between topics.

Better Scalability*

Although this feature isn’t fully functional just yet (see *Note below), The design of the Help Center allows for more accessibility and ease of use when using the site on a device other than a desktop computer (phones, tablets, etc).

Better Integration and Unity in Design

For the first time in a long time, all GPS help documentation is natively stored in a single database and created/edited in the same program. This means that the program used to create Update and What’s New releases is the same program used to write CIM GOLD help manuals, which in turn is the same program used to catalog institution options. For us, this means fewer headaches, quicker turnaround (including a regular site update every two weeks), and a better foundation for integrating help with future GPS projects. For our clients, this means documentation that is uniform in design and better connected across the system.

New Help Sections

With the arrival of the Help Center comes several new categories of documentation, including:

  • API Documentation
  • Automated Decision Engine
  • The Mnemonic Dictionary as a standalone section (no longer nestled in GOLDWriter)
  • Video tutorials (currently offering videos for the Decision Engine and eGOLDSign with plans to expand our video library to include Update/What’s New items and help topics)
  • An expanding Frequently Asked Questions list on the Home page

Conclusion

Check out the Help Center today at helpcenter.goldpointsystems.com* and watch it improve your help-seeking experience. This is a new product, so we are happy and grateful for feedback and suggestions. If you encounter something that doesn’t seem to be working properly, or if you think of a way to make the Help Center even better, reach out to your GPS account manager or contact the documentation team directly at cburnett@goldpointsystems.com. We will also be presenting this new product at GAIN 2021 in September. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you find the information you need as efficiently as possible.

*Note: At present, the Help Center is only accessible on devices that are connected to GPS servers via VPN. Eventually, the Help Center will be programmed with credential security so that it can be accessed on other devices, but in the meantime, you will only be able to visit the site on the same device you use to work with GPS programs. If you are having issues accessing the site, contact your GPS account manager to troubleshoot the problem.
